Assisted purchase scheme
ATTENTION PARENTS AND CARERS!
Do you want to buy a musical instrument for your child? If so you may wish to take advantage of this scheme, which enables you to purchase without paying VAT.

How does it work?
GMS is allowed to purchase musical instruments on behalf of pupils without paying VAT, subject to certain criteria (see below).  In some cases GMS may also be able to negotiate a lower price with suppliers than that available to individual purchasers

Is my child eligible?
To take advantage of the scheme certain criteria must be met: (Please note that these criteria are set by HM Customs & Excise and cannot be varied)
•    Your child must attend a Greenwich LEA school.
•    Pupils must use (and continue to use) the instrument regularly in their school or at a GMS Music Centre or ensemble.
•    The instrument must be appropriate to the child’s playing ability
•    After purchase the instrument must be delivered by GMS to the child’s school or GMS music centre

How do I apply?
1.    In consultation with your child’s instrumental teacher, decide what make/model/size of instrument is required.  You may wish to visit a musical instrument retailer to discuss your purchase, or visit their web site. A list of local music retailers is available on request from GMS.
2.    When you have decided what to buy and from where, ask the retailer for a written quote. This quote should include any charge for local delivery, and clearly show the total cost excluding VAT
3.    Download and complete the form and post to GMS, enclosing the retailer’s quote, and a cheque (payable to ‘Greenwich Council’) for the amount quoted.
On receipt of the letter and clearance of the cheque (normally 5 days), GMS will fax an order to the supplier. We will take delivery of the instrument and contact you regarding delivery to your child’s school

Please note: GMS does not take responsibility for faults or defects in purchased instruments, but will supply on request any paperwork to assist parent/carers with returning faulty instruments.
