Saturday music centres
Greenwich Music Service (GMS) currently runs 3 Saturday morning music centres for children aged 8 – 12 attending Greenwich schools 
  • AWMC stands for Abbey Wood Music Centre, takes place Woolwich Polytechnic School, Hutchins Road, Thamesmead, London, SE28 8AT Location map
  • JRMC stands for John Roan Music Centre, takes place at The John Roan School, Maze Hill SE3 7UD
  • JCYM stands for Junior Centre for Young Musicians, takes place at Kidbrooke Secondary School, Corelli Rd, SE3 8EP

All 3 Centres take place on Saturday mornings, 9.30am – 12.30pm. There are usually 4 activities during the morning

Learning to play an instrument
The Centres currently offer a range of instruments including flute, clarinet, drums (kit and hand drumming), keyboard, trumpet, saxophone, violin and guitar (including some electric guitar). Some centres also offer trombone, lower brass ‘cello and recorder. Most children borrow an instrument to take home and practice. (There is no extra charge for this).

Singing

In larger groups (20-30)

Music workshop

Creative music making, composing, songwriting, musical games (in larger groups)

Ensemble

Playing music together in small and large groups

 Cost

The cost for each term is £20 or FREE for parent/carers whose children are eligible for free school meals.

 There may be other circumstances where parent/carers are suffering financial hardship in which case they are encouraged to apply for a bursary, which will cover the total cost of attending the Centre. No parent/carer should feel that their child can not come to the Centre for financial reasons. (If you would like to apply for a bursary, please contact GMS, or speak to your child’s class teacher or headteacher).

Please note that our Saturday Centres are often oversubscribed. Where that is the case we offer places according to our admissions policy
